The Diablo III Barbarian Article

We all loved the D2 Barbarian, it was a great character, a never ending source of violence and brute force. In Diablo 3 it seems that he got some new skills, the barbarian has become magical. Yes, he is still tough as nails, but has some magic in him also. The seizmic slam is a great example.

The GamePlay Video is simply awesome, it shows the potential of a hardcore melee character with a touch of magic

The fans simply love this, it is a fresh approach on the Barbarian but Blizzard must keep in mind that this character is a brute(too much magic will break his spirit). Hack and Slash at its finest.

A quick reminder of his current D3 skills :

  • cleave
  • ground stomp
  • leap
  • sesmic slam
  • whirlwind

Do you think the D3 Barb is the same from D2 ?

Here are some facts to convince you:

I have posted already the Diablo3 Developers Video where they clearly explain the situation

Here is what Blizzard Poster, Bashiok said about the Barbarian:

The barbarian in Diablo III is indeed the same character we all played in Diablo II. So his memories, interactions, and backstory all still exist, including his knowledge of Cain.

Here is an extract from the D3 Video:

    Barb: “Cain you still live?”
    Cain:”Oh there you are . . . “

Do you still have doubts ?
The Diablo3 Barbarian IS THE SAME ONE from D2. He is older but stronger and has forgotten almost everything.
An interesting scenario for the D3 barb is this:
After defeating Baal, the Barbarian had a mental breakdown, destroying everything he owned and retreating into solitude.
After 20 years in solitude he was left with nothing .. no memories and no skills.. He begins the search for his sanity .

The Barbarian has 85% chance to be my first played character in Diablo3.

We will see great things tomorow

People asked Blizzard about the desktop icon of Diablo3.

You know that a good game desktop icon is the first way to get people to play that game ?

Blizzard knows this, the above is a temporary icon for DiabloIII but it will change.

    Here is what Bashiok said:

Haha, well the icon right now is literally the Diablo-skull-sans-soulstone from this piece of art – http://www.blizzard.com/shared/blizz-com/images/diablo2/wallpapers/d2deathlogo/d2deathlogo-640x.jpg but I can almost guarantee it will change.
Some fun trivia about that piece though: That piece of artwork was originally created as a logo mock-up, a very long time ago, for Diablo III. The middle numeral was taken out and it was re-purposed as a piece for post-release Diablo II.

The update tomorrow is pretty cool, it’s something you haven’t seen before.

Great things are waiting for us, i simply can’t wait to see what it is. A new Character ? A new skill/spell ? A new gameplay effect ? More lore ? What can it be?

I love the desktop logo though.. nice and simpe in a Diablo kind of way

I will post everything i find on this D3 fan blog

    My Greatest Diablo Memories

Ah we have only great things to say about the Diablo games, great memories..

I remember it like yesterday, it was a cold winter morning, snowing outside and I was playing Diablo2 SinglePlayer with a Necromancer in my warm place on my laptop. It was a great feeling and i was on top of the world.

What are (for me) the Greatest Diablo Memories ?
( these are not ordered by awesomeness 🙂 )

    • That feeling you got when you found an Unique Item. You got this rush and satisfaction like no other when you pressed the “alt” key to see that lovely unique color (gold)
    • My First Hardcore run. Well how can i forget that one, i was simply afraid the idea that i could loose my character FOREVER was too much for me. Of course i got used to it and started to like/love Hardcore Diablo (it was like a drug)
    • Hell Mode. Both in Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 HELL was The greatest place. It was hard (specially in D1) and very rewarding after completing. The first time i reached Hell in both games I was on top of the World. Diablo1 was special with those impaled bodies and the Bone Staircase… amazing …
    • The Butcher. Oh my god was he “horrible”. That is the scariest single moment in the History of Diablo. Even after all these years some (me) are scared to open that door. Your heard rushing, your blood pumping and BAM you are dead ! That set was a work of art!
    • The Cinematic. When i first saw the Diablo Movies (D2) i was stunned… Even now i have no words to describe that feeling …. genius
    • Duriel was one of the hardest bosses in my opinion. You know why, because of the FREEZING ! Oh how many times i found myself in front the screen watching my frozen character being battered to death by that beast.
    • The First time i completed the game (in Normal). It was a great feeling and i almost could not believe i had done it. A great game that required skill – patience and luck 🙂

The list can go on but there is no point…. you already know Your greatest memories.
Both Diablo games were a great experience and i hope Diablo III will be the same. I want to look back in a couple of years and think the same about D3. I want to have great memories playing this game

3rd Diablo III class will be similar to a previous class

It is true, Jay Wilson lead designer for Diablo III confirmed in an official interview. We already know that the Barbarian is the Only returning class from D2 (The Necromancer is dead) , and the Witch Doctor looks pretty cool. What will they release next ?

I predict a sorceress type character, this is the official Diacriticals dor com bet. A sorceress type character it is necessary in Diablo3, a pure magic character.

    Here it is:

“All the barbarian players are delighted and all the necromancers hate us. I understand, I don’t begrudge them that. I would hate me too! But what I would say is that when we announce the next class, which is quite similar to a previous class, then all those players will hate us too. You can’t make everybody happy, but I think when the game finally come out players will find there’s a good class for them, one they will love as much as the ones that came before. And if they don’t, I absolutely promise that in the expansions we’ll consider bringing back old classes. We just don’t want to do it with the first release. We want to establish our identity.”

I think it is great that Blizzard wants to make Diablo 3 unique, with brand new classes/spells/monsters. But they still have to make them balanced and in a logical way.

Should we see Synergies in Diablo3 ?

I personally liked the synergy system in Diablo 2 LoD. This game me the opportunity to create very powerful and specialized characters. Here are my thoughts on synergies and the possibility to gave them in DiabloIII

The Good Thing about synergies in D2

    • Very powerful characters
    • Specialized builds
    • You can become powerful very fast
    • Each skill helped another

The Bad Thing about synergies in D2

    • Some skills got ignored (Frozen Orb / Hydra ) by the lack of synergies
    • HELL mode can become impossible
    • A high number of skill points wasted on skills you never use

We can talk all we want about D2 synergies but the main question is: Will they come back in Diablo 3 ?
I personally want them back, i liked them before and i am sure i will like them in the new game also. I do want Blizzard to revise them, to balance them. They are a great source of new character builds, players can make entire strategies based on the synergy skill system.

I want synergies in DiabloIII but in a smarter form and i am sure that Blizzard is considering this possibility. Some say that synergies killed the skill system in Diablo2 but i think it made it better.
